Just as OCA assists the educational endeavors of college students at the state level through the OCA Hall of Fame Scholarship Program and the Advancement Foundation (see page 20), the association’s chapters continue playing an integral role in OCA’s workforce outreach efforts by helping students gain their college educations.
For the 2021-2022 academic year, six OCA chapters awarded 25 one-year scholarships to students at 12 universities who are working toward degrees in the heavy/highway construction industry. Funding for these scholarships is raised throughout the year at chapter events such as business meetings, golf outings and sporting shoots. These scholarships and outreach efforts by OCA’s chapters continue to not only spread the word about the heavy/highway construction industry but also build upon the relationships developed among contractors and college educators and students.
Because OCA Chapter Scholarships derive from the individual chapters, there are varying schedules for the applying and awarding of scholarships. For more information about the 2022-2023 OCA Chapter Scholarship Program, contact OCA Director, Chapter Development Melanie Kitchen by email at mkitchen@ohiocontractors.org or by calling (614) 488-0724.
