Chapter: Eastern Ohio
Name: Megan Temple
Company: Shelly & Sands Inc.
Position: Estimator
Serving as the second-year chair of OCA’s Eastern Ohio Chapter, Megan Temple is taking the opportunity to not only improve the region’s communities but also herself.
Temple, a project estimator with Shelly & Sands Inc. for the past four years, said her work leading the chapter in 2024 prompted her to return as chair in 2025. “Having served the year before has helped me be more familiar with the people and events we hold,” said the Belmont native. “I am most proud of the money we raised to donate to local charities and that we are able to help the community. Being able to hold events and turn a profit that helps local charities and students with scholarships is very fulfilling. The committee is great and works hard toward the success of our chapter.”
The leadership roles Temple has served in have also sharpened her own professional skills, saying, “OCA has helped me build relationships as well as made me more comfortable speaking publicly.” She notes that she best enjoys working with Eastern Ohio Chapter members because she’s “able to spend time with my peers, share ideas and help our community.” Along with her service with OCA, Temple has served as the 2024 Women of Asphalt – West Virginia Chapter and continues to be highly involved in the organization.
A graduate of Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in communications and minors in business and economics, Temple was involved in the oil and gas industry for the first nine years of her career before moving to the heavy/highway construction industry. Upon joining Shelly & Sands, she said she was drawn to OCA’s chapter activities because of their “learning and networking experiences,” two things she continues to promote now as chapter chair. “OCA gives us the opportunity to bring members of industry together to help the community,” she said.
Temple is calling on her experiences as an Eastern Ohio Chapter member and chair to help lead this year’s busy program, saying, “We’ve had a work forecast meeting; blood drive; helped pack backpacks for Blessings in a Backpack; cornhole tournament; golf outing; and will have a clay shoot this fall as well as a holiday luncheon.”
